Spring is that time when the raindrops are welcomed to wash away all the debris from the winter past. Umbrellas come out of the closet and take up residence in the front hall, because even when it’s sunny out in the morning, by lunch time it could become overcast and start raining. Umbrellas are one of those tools that help you keep dry in the inclement weather.
Umbrellas come in a variety of styles, shapes, colors and can be a fashion statement that makes a wet dreary day, so much nicer.
Historically most umbrellas for men are either black or dark navy. They are utilitarian and made just to keep the men in our lives dry on a rainy day. For the ladies, Umbrellas are a whole different ball game. They are or can be a fashion statement. There are plain umbrellas that come in a multitude of colors, one to go with any outfit that you could find in your closet. Then there are the “designer” umbrellas. These are made to look like Renior paintings or Stained glass from Tiffany. They are not just dome shaped, but some are even shaped like tulips, or some have ruffled edges, cut outs and a whole range of different attributes to make them beautiful.
Umbrellas can be shaped like flowers daisies, or they could be covered in your favorite animals.
A woman could have a dozen umbrellas and still find reason to buy one more. Not only are they pretty and functional, some of them are downright ingenious. They collapse down into a size that fits into any woman’s handbag. When needed, they extend and become a full fledged umbrella offering the same benefits that a non-collapsible one does. It’s a great way to be prepared for just about anything as far as weather goes…..
These collapsible umbrellas are a wonderful little item to keep in the bottom of your handbag, especially in the spring months, because you never know when the clouds are going to appear, to turn a sunny day into a rainy one.

I love umbrellas and am actually looking to buy one of those old-fashioned see through ones that they used to have back in the day. I can’t wait until spring to show it off.
Grammie Olivia says
They are still available. Hope you get it soon….nothing like being ready for that first rain.
Annemarie LeBlanc says
I think the UV umbrella and the stained glass design umbrella are the best! It would be great to have a colorful umbrella rather than the boring black or grey ones.
Grammie Olivia says
Oh I agree, gone are the days of just having an umbrella for the sake of keeping off the rain. Umbrellas have graduated, especially with the rise of awareness of sun damage on skin…..
Alicia Vanatta says
These are cute. I need an umbrella.
Grammie Olivia says
Which one is your favorite? I have a hard time making up my mind. One minute it’s the cats and then I go back and I want something else……
Michele says
Oh–I love that black cat umbrella and I bet one of my friends would too!! My Mom would go for the stained glass look. Gotta go check all these out.
Grammie Olivia says
I love them all, but have to agree with you those black cats on the red just stand out! The stained glass one is pretty too! Oh I love them all….
Chelley @ A is For Adelaide says
I’m an owner of lots of boring umbrellas! I want to pick one up for fun and fashion before spring comes, though.
Grammie Olivia says
I hear you! So many times we think only of keeping the rain off, we should enjoy keeping the rain off under a beautiful umbrella…….
Liz Mays says
Umbrellas can definitely be fashionable. I’ve always bought plain ones but matching them with outfits could be a good idea.
Grammie Olivia says
I love seeing matching umbrellas, it just gives you that “complete” look whatever the weather….
Lorelei aka Ladymermaid says
I admit that I am a romantic at heart. I love umbrellas.
Grammie Olivia says
So you need a really big one for two! Or a regular one that makes you snuggle closer….
Jill says
Love the variety of umbrellas here! Don’t use them much for rain, but for the sun, now that is a different story 🙂
Grammie Olivia says
You are so right, with people being more and more aware of skin cancers, the use of umbrellas on sunny days should be increasing.
Robin Masshole Mommy says
I have a zillion umbrellas. I am always so worried about my hair curling, that I keep umbrellas everywhere.
Grammie Olivia says
You must have that beautiful naturally curly hair that I would love to have…..I know, we always want what we don’t have.
Barbara Radisavljevic says
Those are beautiful. We’ve had so little rain here that I haven’t used an umbrella in years. The one if have is not nearly as attractive as these.
Grammie Olivia says
Barbara, you might want one for those really sunny days, to protect your skin from all the damaging rays. It is becoming a big problem for many fair haired and not so fair haired people.
Linda Jo Martin says
My umbrella shows up once in a while but usually hides from me when it’s raining. I have a wonderful large UV umbrella that I use in summer heat. That one is too big to hide. I love that stained glass butterfly umbrella, and the Van Gogh masterpiece right next to it. Maybe it is time for a new umbrella.
Grammie Olivia says
I think you are right Linda, an umbrella in the summer’s heat is a must have, you might as well make it pretty too!
MyTeenGuide says
Those are pretty umbrellas. I love the stained glass design.
Grammie Olivia says
Isn’t it pretty! They make such beautiful umbrellas these days. I saw one that looked like a flower and it was so pretty. I could stand under that in the rain and still feel happy!
Heather Johnson says
I never have my umbrella with me when I need one. And I have a quite a few including an adorable red and black polka dot one.
Grammie Olivia says
Oh I bet it is pretty. I’m like that too, when I need one I don’t have one, but if it threatens rain, I’ll grab a brollie and the sun will shine on……
