The Best Garden Broom is one that is easy to use and works well.
What makes this broom better than any other, you might ask. From experience, I can tell you that this broom is much better at sweeping and moving garden debris. The sweep is much stiffer than a regular corn broom and that stiffness makes it excellent at getting all of the garden “gunk” together. Made from coconut palms the broom is not only natural but also made of sustainable and biodegradable materials. Maple keys and birch buds easily move, when swept with this broom.
Unlike corn brooms, that if not properly taken care of disintegrate in a year, these work horses of the garden work well even when they are wet. Hanging them up after use is still a good practice, but if you forget, you won’t have lost your investment.
Why use the Best Garden Broom instead of Blowing?
If you are anything like me, your time spent in the garden should be a time of quiet enjoyment. I love to hear the birds singing and the frogs croaking, but I really dislike the sound of Electric or gas leaf blowers. When you see groundskeepers wearing ear protection while blowing their debris, you know that the sounds coming out of those machines is formidable. The Best Garden Broom does not require any ear protection while in use. The only addition might be some garden gloves, but that is even optional.
Taking the Time to Sweep!
There is something cathartic about using your own strength and body motions to accomplish small tasks. Sweeping your driveway or walks can be just that way too. It’s a motion that is soothing and the results are pleasing to the eye. No ears were hurt in the process either. If a neighbor stopped by while you were sweeping, it would be nothing to stop for a minute, to have that nice chat. Catching up on what is happening in the neighborhood and just having a chat to be friendly, is good for the gardener’s soul too!
There are Other Benefits as Well
My biggest reason for liking a hand powered broom is that I am not adding anything to the air that wasn’t there before. No gas fumes from leaf blowers or no added use of electricity for the electrically powered ones. My hydro bill will not suffer and my gardens, walkways and drive will be neat and tidy. The birds, butterflies, and bees will not have been sent into outer space by the violent winds and noise of those mechanically powered blowers. All the time I am out there working, I can enjoy the lovely melodies that my little-feathered friends are singing.
No pollution in the air from fumes and no noise pollution either. It is a win-win situation for all gardeners.

What an attractive broom! And the price is quite reasonable too 😀

Isn’t it? Love the look and feel of that broom, and you can use it for Halloween too!

You and my mom sure see eye to eye on brooms! Mom loves her broom. Now, I use them as needed, but I readily admit they represent another job for me. I have watched my mother though all of my life as she sweeps away dirt that is long gone. I have often wondered if she is using that time to think thing through. Maybe I should give my broom a little more time and consideration.
Grammie Olivia says
I think I love your mom too. Sweeping is a very cathartic, rhythmic movement and yes, you can sweep your troubles away while sweeping the dirt too. I use that time actually to say my prayers! There are so many people who have asked so I try to remember them all while doing mundane, and mind emptying chores……sweeping fits beautifully. After all God hears the prayers where ever you are because He is everywhere too!

I have to get a new broom for the patios, need to buy an ultimate garden broom. The blower seems to make a mess of everything.
Grammie Olivia says
Susan I find those blowers are really not that great, especially in the suburbs where the houses are so close together. It just blows things over to your neighbors. Give me a broom any day and I will be happy sweeping my cares and the dirt away.

I prefer ‘hand’ powered clean up tools like this broom. Much quieter and no rush to finish – sweep a little, rest, sweep some more!
Grammie Olivia says
Hand powered is the way to go in my books. Those noisy leaf blowers are a health hazard in more ways than one. As someone else pointed out, they stir up allergens into the air and a whole bunch of other stuff too!. I like your idea of sweep a little, rest and then sweep some more….Just my speed!
Karen says
Thank you !!! I hate those blowers. Sweeping has a nice zen rhythm… and it doesn’t kick up allergens!
Grammie Olivia says
I didn’t even think of the allergens! But you are so right. Sweeping with just a little sprinkle of water beforehand keeps all the dust and everything else from flying around. I hate those leaf blowers because they just make so much noise, and kick up all kinds of dirt and debris onto my yard…..sheesh! But you are so right, there is a calm soothing rhythm to sweeping.

I’m with you. I hate leaf blowers, but my gardener uses one anyway. Even if he didn’t, my near neighbors use them. There’s no getting away from the noise if you have close neighbors. Even if I gave all of them these great brooms, they would probably still use their horrid blowers.
Grammie Olivia says
I hear you Barbara, as I was writing the article, my neighbors were busy blowing their cuttings all over the place. It drives me crazy. I will still use the broom because I do find that there is something meditational about the movement and I enjoy it much more than that crazy leaf blower. I sweep and then rest a bit and enjoy the birds, flowers and trees, then I continue sweeping. Quite often there is a catchy tune playing in my head. 🙂
