Amazing gifts for seniors often stymies the most ardent shoppers. Not anymore! Let’s get some of the best gifts for our seniors and show them how much we love and appreciate them.
For Active Seniors:
Seniors today are much more active than our counterparts were fifty years ago. While we suffer ailments due to aging, we don’t let them stop us in our tracks. We plow on and try our best to stay active. To that end, I am always looking for ways that will help keep me and my peers active and moving all the time.
One of my newest favorite activities is a game called Pickleball! There are clubs and groups all over the country and more are springing up each day, as this game starts to take hold of a new( older) generation of players. You can read all about it at a review I did for a publication I write for called Review This! In short, this game is for all ages with the majority of the players being over 60 years of age. Perfect in my books for an outstanding gift for seniors. It is also so reasonably priced that anyone can get started without BIG cash investments. Check it out here:
I know that this game is a winner for seniors! While on holidays in Myrtle Beach, we met a whole bunch of Pickleballers, who had just finished a tournament! They were so excited and thrilled to be telling me about this newest fitness craze that they had started to play. I came home to find that there are Pickleball Associations all over the world. So you know that it will be a winner for sure. Keeping active and social is important for all seniors. Use the link to find a group near you!
For Seniors Who Love to Read:
Books are always a great gift for seniors! They have the time to get “into” a book and keep on reading until they have reached the end. Don’t let a lack of reading material be a reason to stop. Kindle readers are wonderful gift ideas and if you check with your local Public Library, you can give the gift of reading at a reasonable cost. Most libraries lend books that are delivered to a Kindle device. So even if your senior can’t get to the library, the library can come to them. Kindle readers come in several different models, but all of them are great for seniors, even those with sight problems can find that Kindle enlarges the print size to make it easier to read. There are also several different price points to suit your budget. There are millions of books available for the Kindle too! So whatever your favorite seniors like to read, be it romance novels, murder mysteries or travel books, it’s all available for them! What a fantastic gift this would be for that senior who loves reading!
For Seniors Who Love Being at Home:
So while many seniors are active and still like to get out, there are others, who really enjoy just being at home. They have their friends and hobbies and just don’t care to go out too much. So what gifts would be appropriate for them? Well here’s a list that might make it easier for you:
A great place to get some really soothing indoor features that will make any seniors’ home more relaxing and inviting. From Indoor fountains, and products for relaxing, to solar lights and more. Find that perfect something and have it sent to your favorite senior.
If you are far away and still want to let your seniors know that they haven’t been forgotten, this is a great link just for you. They have all sorts of wonderful candy that can be sent from coast to coast. They have a line of sugar-free, gluten-free goodies that will make any senior smile with delight. These are great gifts for any senior and they can choose to share them with friends or hide them somewhere special, for their own personal enjoyment.
A great place to get Grammie or Grandpa a really nice set of Pajamas. They will sleep like babies when they wear these beautiful pajamas or nightgowns. Silk will keep them warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. They will know just how much you care when they are wearing and sleeping so comfortably. Affordable and easy care too, so you don’t have to worry that they won’t wear them. If pajamas aren’t your style, then a nice silk pillowcase will keep Grammies hair looking it’s best too!
When we have older family members that are having difficulty with remembering things, let’s find a way to help them out! This alarm/clock is a great idea and a ready reminder for your loved ones, as to what day it is and the time too. All in great big letters and numbers so that even the seniors who have problems with their sight will find this useful. Heck, you don’t have to be sight impaired to find this useful. I know I’d love to have one of those.
For Socially Active Seniors:
There are Seniors that love to play mind games too. It keeps the grey matter working best if it gets some stimulation. There are word games, number games and sight games too! Some can be played individually and others can be played in groups! You know what your favorite aunt, uncle or grandparents love to do, so you decide or let them decide.
Some great suggestions would be:
Books that keep that mind in fine working order!
And then there are games and more all available from Amazon and delivered right to your favorite seniors home! What could be easier than that and they will love that you have remembered them in such a fine and fun way.

Grammie KNOWS HOW to have a great time and would appreciate any one of the suggestions made here.
I love all of these suggestions – my senior self and all!
I really like these suggestions…. especially Pickleball!
Dawn Rae if you ever put a pickleball court on your property at the shack you’d have lots and lots of friends dropping by to play…..but then your peace and quiet would be shot……Pickleball is a hoot! I tried and I love it.
So wonderful that you thought of all different kinds of gifts for seniors with a whole range of interests 🙂
Well Kyla, there are so many different kinds of seniors these days too! Thank you for your lovely comment. I tried to include as many groups as I could. I will probably do another set for seniors who have other interests still.
Such great ideas! Seniors are so hard to buy for because they seem to have everything! My daughter gets so frustrated shopping for her dad. He keeps telling her “Don’t buy me anything. I don’t need anything!” LOL!
I know what you mean Amy. I get the same thing from my mother and my uncle….but the truth is, they still like to get presents! And we like to give them too! I will be writing more about this topic and will keep you in mind and share what I have found. Hopefully something will resonate with your for your husband and kids….
Some great ideas! I would love some gift suggestions for my mother-in-law. She has me stumped.
She uses a walker and is not very active. She only gets out of bed to smoke (smokes like a chimney) and occasionally allows us to drag her out with us to a restaurant (about 50/ 50 as to whether or not she’ll go). She has an ancient little yap dog that is always with her.
She mostly watches Netflix whenever she’s awake (NCIS and Criminal Minds) – she catnaps all day and night. She watches all the episodes in a row, then starts over at the beginning. When she does come hang out with me, we mostly watch Netflix movies while she plays solitaire games on her laptop.
She’s an incredibly picky eater (if she doesn’t like it, she just won’t eat) and is very underweight – mostly eats what she calls “breakfast on a stick” (sausage encased in a pancake on a stick – kinda like a corn dog) and Boosts. Although she will usually eat something if we eat out. She loves pie, German chocolate cake, and Rice Krispy Treats and eats a little every day. (I’m getting fat from all the treats in the house since she doesn’t eat much at a time). I always have junk food in stock for her so it’s not really special.
She only showers once a week (on a good week) and is not really “girly” – no hair bands, makeup, perfume, jewelry…. She sleeps in her clothes and only changes them if she has an accident or takes a shower. She only wears shirts with zippers in front and they have to be loose and comfy enough to sleep in. Pants tend to be pajama pants/ scrubs. She wears a foot brace so no choices on footwear.
You can see why I’m struggling. I’d love any help I can get.
Mary
Hey Mary I can see that you are having your hands full with your dear Mother In Law. It really is hard when they are not active at all, but I would suggest that a Kindle book would be a great idea for her. Are you an Amazon Prime member? If so then you could get her

Mary, the other thing that I think your MIL would enjoy would be some Adult Coloring Books with some pencil crayons. These a lovely projects that she can start and stop at will or when she has had enough. If she doesn’t finish it in a day, no harm and no foul. She can do this as she pleases and she just might enjoy the “creative” side while she decides how she would like her print to look. I will try to come up with some other suggestions for you. Give me a day or two and I will see what I can find. You can check out a Review I did for coloring books at : http://www.reviewthisreviews.com/2015/08/adult-coloring-books-are-all-rage.html There are many many different styles of books available and I’m sure she would enjoy this as a new hobby.
