Wednesday August the 3rd has been designated National Watermelon Day. WooHoo! Who doesn’t love Watermelon?
This sweet juicy fruit has been a summer time delight for many families all over the world. It is refreshing and nutritious too. So what’s not to like? There isn’t a picnic that is complete without the ritual cutting up of that great big green, larger than a football, melon. Everyone just waits for their turn at grabbing the perfect slice.
It’s time to celebrate Watermelon Day, if you haven’t been doing that already! Plan a picnic, get the family together and delight in each other and that wonderful watermelon too!
You know you want to!
Watermelons are nutritious and delicious, cool and very good for you. They are sweet and a delight to the eyes. Who doesn’t just love the look of that pinky, red middle dotted with black and white seeds? And it’s all wrapped up in lime green!
Easy to eat at the best of times, but also easy to make drinks that will refresh and re-energize you as well. Low in calories but really high in taste value, watermelon is a go to treat for the summer months. You can buy the large watermelons, or the smaller seedless ones. It’s all up to you, and they both have the same sweet taste. The only difference is no seeds to worry about.
My family prefers the watermelons with the seeds in them, after all what’s a seed spitting contest without seeds? There will be no seedless watermelons at my house, thank you anyways. When everyone gets together the only thing they need is a clear path for their seed spitting antics and some really good wash cloths afterwards. Everyone is laughing and the sweetness is just running down everyone’s chins. Truly this is a summer tradition that makes for great picture taking opportunities. Everyone will be laughing for years to come. Wear your favorite watermelon themed clothing item. Socks, shirts, baby dresses can all be found with watermelon themes. Have some fun with the day and celebrate it fully. Mark the day on your calendar and make it a point to take pictures every watermelon day for years to come and then check out how much everyone has changed and how the watermelon is still the same. Great memories are made of days like this.

Love the picture with the baby enjoying the juicy slice of watermelon. My memory is showing a similar picture x 2, one for each of my little guys. They still love watermelon, too!
